The Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group was formed to develop the necessary policies, procedures, and technical infrastructure required for multicenter perioperative outcomes research. It has already aggregated 3 million operative episodes across 15 medical centers with detailed risk adjustment, process of care, and outcome data for observational outcomes research.
Currently, the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) is a consortium of 47 anesthesiology and surgical departments of institutions with perioperative information systems. Each uses a commercially available AIMS – a structured electronic medical record that replaces the paper pre-, and post-operative anesthesia records.
We are accelerating outcomes research and investigating perioperative adverse events to advance knowledge and improve patient care. Membership only requires that the institution have a perioperative information system and that the department chair (Sponsor) and faculty support the project through their willingness to enter their de-identified clinical data into the central MPOG database. Each study must pass a review process by the Perioperative Clinical Research Committee (PCRC), which is composed of principal investigators representing member departments.
